Sight and Hearing Assistance
SIM are seeking someone to assist a sight and hearing impaired person for the 4 day workshop.
The requirement details from John are below.
The kinds of assistance I require is for someone to be my sighted guide when required and for me to use a microphone on occasions for the person speaking to talk into. This microphone is a very small wireless Bluetooth microphone that communicates to my hearing aids. I use this microphone when I am a reasonable distance from the person speaking or that person has a softly spoken voice. Also the microphone is of some help to me with overcoming the problem of background noise that occurs in such situations as social gatherings or where there is other background noise that cannot be avoided.
Someone being a sighted guide for me when required involves me holding on to the persons elbow while the person guides me to the place required. Most of the time I will be using my cane to guide me around but in certain situations where there is a complex or sensitive environment, or to make things quicker and easier, then a person assisting me by being my sighted guide would be very helpful. It only takes a few minutes for me to show someone how to be a sighted guide.
Also it would be helpful for the people communicating to me to read the web page I have put together at the web link below.
I understand the workshops with Stephen and Martine Batchelor will be held in North Sydney. I can get to North Sydney railway station but I will need assistance to get to the actually venue.
If you are interested in assisting send an email to me and I will put you in touch with John.
