Beginner's Mind: Writing as a contemplative practice.
During this time of deep reflection and challenge, we can engage with writing as a contemplative resource. How might we open to what Zen practitioners call beginner’s mind? As in sitting/walking meditation, when we let go of certainties, we drop into a space of not-knowing, from which the body’s wisdom arises. Then the words that flow through the hand to the page offer a fresh way of being with our experience.
As the poet Philip Booth says so beautifully, we'll come together "…to find some word for / how we bear our lives."
In this day of guided practice, we’ll be together mostly in silence, though there will be some opportunity, always voluntary, to speak from the experience of writing in this bodily-based meditative way.
