At Sydney Insight Meditators (SIM) we wish to minimise financial hardship being a barrier to anyone wanting to attend any of its retreats.
Our goal in administering scholarships is to balance our intention to enable those that cannot meet the full cost of the retreat to still attend alongside mindful stewardship of SIM resources. Scholarships places are therefore limited to a maximum of three places per retreat, with funding provided from SIM reserves and the generosity of our members and supporting retreatants via donation.
Scholarships are approved and granted at the discretion of the SIM committee. Priority is given to those who have not received a scholarship in the last 2 years as well as to anyone previously approved but unsuccessful in receiving a scholarship. We hope that everyone applying for scholarships will understand that.
Scholarship applications close on the date indicated on the retreat webpage. After the closing date approved applicants will be offered scholarships in order of application date, after taking into consideration the priorities indicated above.
Applicants offered a scholarship will have 1 week from when they are notified to take up the scholarship offer and complete a booking. Applicants will therefore need to ensure they have sufficient funds to make a booking shortly after the closing date in the event they are successful.
Where an applicant is unable to complete a booking within the 1 week period the scholarship will be need to be made available to the next approved applicant. This is to ensure the scholarship process can conclude in a way that provides scholarship recipients with sufficient time to plan their attendance. After all scholarship places are filled an email will be sent to any remaining applicants advising of the outcome of their application.
Please note that applicants also need to consider what they would like to offer to the teachers in terms of Dana. Dana is not included in the cost of the retreat, nor is it covered by a scholarship.
